Development of a magnetic method for assessing the state of stress in materials construction, especially anisotropic ones

Project group: Projekty w ramach Programu Badań Stosowanych
The term: października 2012 - grudnia 2014
Project Manager: PhD Marzena Lech-Grega
Employees:

Acronym: MAGSTRES

Contract number: PBS1/A9/14/2012

The project concerns the development of a useful non-destructive magnetic method for testing the state of internal stress in construction materials.

This method is based on the measurement of the Barkhausen field effect (EB). In the case of anisotropic materials, EB measurement is to be supported by measuring deformations around the control hole (using strain gauges or the digital image correlation method). Calibration of the dependence of the intensity of EB on the state of stress will be made for the reference samples of unalloyed, ferritic-bainitic, martensitic and duplex steels.

The microstructure (scanning, transmission and magnetic force microscopy) and anisotropy studies will be complemented by the study of the state of internal stress by the method of mechanical Barkhausen effect and X-ray diffraction.

Control results of the EB test of welded joints and structural elements will be verified by X-ray diffraction.Validation of the EB method will be carried out in an accredited laboratory.structural
